Vacuum, Sweep, and Wash the car......What a Workout!
It's that time of year again, the time to do a little "Spring Cleaning" around the house. If you want to burn some extra calories, try brisk vacuuming. It's sure to raise your heart rate and work some of those dormant abdominal muscles. Did you know the act of vacuuming is considered a core strengthening exercise when performed properly? Just make sure when you are vacuuming to hold your stomach muscles tight and breath deep. Also, as not to injure your back, always lift with your legs when moving heavy items.
You just finished mowing the lawn and now there's grass all over the sidewalk and driveway!!! What a perfect opportunity to burn some more calories. Aside from burning calories, the act of sweeping also works the abs, obliques, shoulders, and biceps. Remember to hold yourself upright with good posture while sweeping, stay hydrated in hot weather, and wear sunscreen. You are sure to feel this one the next day!
Since the warm weather has arrived it's Car Washing time! Try washing your car, by hand, and you will feel the calories melting away. I washed my car last week and the next day my arms felt like jello. I didn't realize how much work it takes to wash, dry, and vacuum my own car. I think this is a great full body workout. Your arms get a workout from scrubbing the car up and down, and your legs get a workout from all the squatting and standing repeatedly. This is also a great way to work on your tan! Remember to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen.
Let us know if you have any ideas for creative ways to burn calories!
Calorie Burning Activities
Did you know there are calorie burning activities hiding
everywhere around you? If you are one of
those people who despise going to the gym, then here are some inventive ways to
burn calories.
Next time you creep to the kitchen, in the middle of the night, to drink straight from the milk carton; stop and do a few curls. A Gallon of water weighs 8.35 lbs. and that’s
the perfect weight for midnight triceps extensions. 3 sets of 12 should do the trick. Here’s a picture of what a triceps extension
looks like. Just imagine the weight is a
gallon of water or milk.
Also, you might not think that you would burn a lot of calories just
by chewing gum. However, that extra action for your mouth can end up resulting
in a lot of calories burned if you’re chewing gum all day every day. You’ll
want to choose no-calorie gum to get the benefits of burning those calories.
And you’ll want to discuss this with your dentist since chewing gum all day may
be bad for some people’s teeth. It’s a neat little trick to add to your repertoire
of burning calories though.
Next on my list: MOW THE LAWN.
With a push mower you can burn a substantial amount of calories.
(as well as work on your tan!) Follow
this link for a neat way to calculate how many calories you can burn while
mowing the lawn. It will ask for your
body weight and time spent mowing.
Last on my list for today is stairs. If you have a flight of stairs in your home, use them! There's nothing like a good leg workout to get your blood pumping. Try setting a goal for yourself and climbing the stairs 5 times a day. Once you get your heart rate up you might want to move on to Aerobic Vacuuming! Check out the link below for a more detailed calorie calculator.
That's all for now! Check back soon for more creative ways to exercise around the home. Let us know some ideas you might have.

Howard's On Main
Looking for a step up from your usual sub sandwich? Howard's on Main is where you need to go! Howard's is a deli-style eatery and coffee shop. They focus on fresh products and quality service. I have never had poor service any time I have been to eat there! Their menu features freash baked breads, pastries, soups, sandwiches, salads, and fabulous desserts. My personal favorite is the #5, sliced chicken breast, bacon, havarti cheese, sliced granny smith apples, siracha sauce, cucumbers, and lettuce all on a cibata roll. Dixie Drive In
If you live in Greenwood, SC there is no doubt in my mind you have heard of the Dixie! A local burger joint known for their famous Dixie Cheese, half & half & cherry coke. Need a little translation from the local lingo? Dixie Cheese- A cheeseburger made to order with a patty that hangs over the bun, Half & Half- an order of half fries and half onion rings (the best of both worlds), and Cherry Coke- (not the kind you can buy off the shelf at your local grocery store) they use real cherry syrup and put as much as you want! This is definitely a must stop on your next trip to the big city of Greenwood!

Journey
Sorry to say that I was not able go see the movie "Hunger Games" yet. However I have something interesting to talk about. This post is not just only for people between the ages of 20-29, this goes to everyone of every age. If you want to play a game that is different, "Journey" is the way to go. The basis of the game is self explanatory to the title. Your making a journey and that's as far as I will say. This beautiful game was another successful creation of THATGAMECOMPANY. Just like their previous game "Flower", they once again succeeded in making a game that targets an emotional response from the player. I am not afraid to say this; heck even I cried playing this game. This wonderful game is only available for the PlayStation network for $14.99 and has a lot of replay value. Trust me when I say, it is worth buying.
The video below is the official trailer to the game. If you can, try to watch it on the highest quality.
That's it for today this is GWD Man. Stay awesome everyone!!!!!

Greenwood Civic Center
Remember the Greenwood Civic Center? Yep, it’s still there, even though the building is closed. If you have kids or played here as a kid you’re familiar with the walk/jog track around the grounds. This track is 1 mile around, up and down hill slopes. This used to be my favorite place to go and chill with my friends. Whether we were playing Ultimate Frisbee, soccer, tennis, or just hanging around the playground acting goofy; the Greenwood Civic Center was the place to be. I still have fond memories of baseball games and playing on the merry-go-round as a kid. They even still have the jungle gym and train! I’m so glad Greenwood still has an outdoor place for everyone to come and enjoy. The Greenwood Civic Center offers an array of outdoor activities and facilities. There's a walking track, tennis courts, soccer field, volleyball sand courts, basketball courts, 3 playgrounds, Skate Park, bathrooms, water fountains and much more. There are also several gazebos and covered shelters for parties, cookouts, and gatherings etc. Also, there are some basic fitness facilities like a place to do sit-ups, pull-ups, and stretches. The Civic Center is always hopping with activity and is a lively place to exercise. If you have never been, I suggest you go take a walk at one of Greenwood's best Sporting Complexes.
Cambridge Walking Trail
Hey, did you guys know there is a walking trail that runs from the Cambridge Park all the way to the Mall? Although I wouldn’t be caught alone at night on this trail; I do think that in the daytime this is an awesome opportunity for some outdoor exercise. The trail runs under the East Cambridge Avenue Bridge and behind the new Jeff May Complex that Lander built. The new Bearcat Village dormitories also backup to the trail. The Bearcat Village used to be Cokesberry Apartments. Now that it’s the Bearcat Village it is patrolled regularly by security and leads to a safer atmosphere.(Despite the unfortunate recent news story) I just want to say, as a Lander alumni, my heart goes out to the 3 victims and their families, you’re in my thoughts and prayers. As far as the trail is concerned, grab a couple of friends and take a walk! There’s also a back entrance to the Lander walking track located on the right hand side of the back parking lot. It’s a beautiful walk with lots to see and experience along the way! If you’re hungry at the end you can always stop at the Waffle House and grab a bite to eat. I suggest the patty melt, and then jog 3 miles! Lol
Omni
In case you didn’t know; there’s a new athletic club in Greenwood and it’s pretty awesome. Omni is located in the old GAC building and boasts some incredible changes. If you haven’t been by to check it out, then you need to take a peak. I was reluctant to go at first and thought it was nothing new, because I was a former member of GAC before it closed. As I soon realized when I walked in the newly remodeled facility; Omni is very different from GAC. I was very impressed by all the new state-of-the-art machines Omni has to offer. When I say state-of-the-art I mean high end $5000 treadmills with personal flat screenTVs mounted on each machine. No more plugging into that little headphone jack to watch 10 TVs up on a dusty shelf. Each Life Fitness treadmill and elliptical offer a 10 inch high definition flat screen TV mounted on the machine at eye level. Pretty sweet deal! Also, instead of the treadmill and elliptical area machines facing towards the back of the building; they currently face the front door so you also have a view of the entire facility as you exercise your cardio. There are also 50inch high def flat screen TVs mounted everywhere throughout the facility. As I toured Omni, I was pleased with the new color schemes and machines. Most of the right hand side of the facility is still laid out similar to the way GAC had it. Do you remember behind the front desk used to be a set of offices, a smoothie bar, and various golf and spin rooms? Well, all that has been gutted out! Gone! It’s an open area now that features even more exercise machines and also makes the facility feel gigantic. From any stand point on the floor I was able to see throughout the facility and felt connected to all the areas by a clear sightline. Continuing onward to the back there is still a “Ladies Only” workout room where it has always been, as well as 2 classrooms and the walking track. One classroom is now a spin room featuring black lights and a 100inch screen showing an outdoor ride as you bike along. The other room, on the right, is still a classroom featuring Mirrors on all side and beautiful blond hardwood floors. Before reaching the Locker rooms, on the right, there is a Theater room. Everyday a different movie is shown, throughout the day, for those who would like to watch a movie on the big screen while exercising. FYI….this room is very dark, and may take your eyes a minute to adjust, but it’s very nice! I wouldn’t mind trying it out. The child care and locker rooms are still laid out the same and very clean and inviting. Overall, I was very impressed with the remodel. It feels like it has an even more open floor plan than before, while at the same time it flows very well. I rate this facility as the BEST I’ve seen in Greenwood so far. On the other hand, let’s talk about memberships. When I first asked for some simple information on prices and memberships I was a little put off by the fact that they have no brochures or pamphlets I could take with me. I was even more suspicious of the term “Individual memberships” for each member. This led me to believe each membership is different and there is no base rate or easily understandable price guide. So, after sitting down and discussing some basic membership facts; I think it’s pretty affordable. I was told that if I signed a 24 month contract now, the enrollment fee of $149 would be waved and I would only pay $29 a month. (with an annual facility maintenance fee of $49 drafted in July of each year) Add $10 to that monthly fee if you want unlimited tanning. All in all, not a bad price at all! On the other hand, 2 years is a long time to commit? Who knows where I’ll be in 2 years? In response to this concern they offer a way to FREEZE a membership if it will be inactive for a while. I was very tempted to join on the spot, but I need some time to mull it over. So, to wrap it all up, go by and check out the facilities at Omni……you will be impressed. This facility gives the Greenwood YMCA and Wellness Works something to live up to. As much as I love it, I still don’t know if I can get over the 2 year contract? What do you guys think???

Music in GWD
Wazzup ladies and gentlemen GMD man here to give you the latest information on entertainment for people between the ages 20-29 in greenwood.
Please note that these were random individuals that these results are not to be taken serious.
Sadly, this won't be that much of a big topic. Walking around Greenwood, I asked about 50 people the question "What kind of music do you listen to?" Exactly, 45% of those people listen to rap or R&B. 15% of people listen to Country or Religious music. Of that percentage, 20% listen to heavy metal, hard rock or rock in general. Approximately, 18% listen to oldies or alternative and that kind of surprised me. Sadly, 2% of the 50 listen to other music like jpop, kpop, Icelandic, Vrock, etc.
Well that's it for now all for now. STAY AWESOME!!!!!

Hello GMD Man with more news on entertainment. Today, I will be talking about game systems. When I say game systems, I mean the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. I took the time to ask thirty gamers on about what game system they would rather have and why they have that particular system.
Please note that these statistics are just for around Greenwood, SC
First, lets talk about the Xbox 360, 8 out of 30 people choose to get a Xbox 360 mostly because it was cheaper. Next, 2 out of those 8 people said it was because of the various amounts of different games there was to choose from. All 8 people said that the system also had better graphics than the PS3 and the Wii. I agree with what was said with the Wii but not the PS3.
Next is the Wii, 11 out of 30 choose the Wii over the XBox 360 and PS3. When asked why, the questioned people said that it was very easy to use, their kids can play it, and there were a lot of games to choose from. On top of that, they have just a big selection of games as the XBox360. Now, even though the graphics on the is not as advanced as the PS3 or the XBox360 people still find the Wii very enjoyable.
Finally the Playstation 3, 11 out of 30 people choose to get the PS3 over the XBox 360 and the Wii. Not only did people say that the PS3 had superior graphics. The PS3 systems also include a blue ray player, a printer can be attached to them, 7 remotes synced with the units, and Remote play on the PSP/PSPVita which allows you to play your PS3 system through wi-fi and many more features.
In overall the PS3 and The Wii are tied.

Opinions on the latest hit movies of March set 1
Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is GMD Man!!! Here to
give you the latest scoops of entertainment. Today I will be talking about the
latest hit movies currently out on DVD and Blue-ray
The movies of this topic are:
Immortals
Act
of Valor
FYI: I do not know actor names. :P
The first movie that I will talk about is The Immortals. After watching this movie
I have to say that I am not really too impressed. Even though some of the
visual aspects of the movie are impressive, the direction the movie went was
kind of flat. The movie was about two hours long and did not have a lot of
action in it. The actors of choice I think they could have done better. An
example would be, if you have ever seen the newer version of Clash of the Titans the actor who played
as Zeus, played the roll very well. However the actor who played in The Immortals was not very appealing. He
was skinny and did not have a look of a Greek god. On top of that they could
have done a better job choosing the actor for the daughter of Zeus. I do not
know who would pull a good daughter but they could have picked better. I will neither
recommend it nor will I not recommend it.
For more information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1253864/
Overall: 8.3
Finally the next hit movie is Act of Valor. An interesting movie about the U.S Navy seals
starring real active navy seals. This alone I found to be pretty cool, the fact
that they actually took real Navy seals and put them into a movie. The movie
has a lot of intense action and a lot of suspenseful moments. Also for solders
with no acting experience they did an awesome job acting in this movie. There
is really not much to say after that. So if you have not seen this movie I would
highly recommend it.
Overall: 9.4

Amish Oven
Looking for good home cooking for a good
price? The Amish
Oven is where you need to go! The famous southern meal of “a meat and three” along with a huge glass of sweet tea and a delicious dessert, will cost you $6.25. I say that’s a pretty good deal. I met my husband at “The Oven” last week for lunch (this happening place is only open weekdays from 11-2) and we were in and out in 30 minutes. I had a plate full of dressing, roasted corn, macaroni & cheese (yes in the south mac & cheese is a vegetable) mashed potatoes, sweet tea, and topped it off with homemade banana pudding! I left with my belly full and plenty of time left on my break. Not only is the food wonderful, the atmosphere and the workers are so inviting. Good homemade food and good company will definitely keep me coming back. On my scale they rank a 10!

Uptown Sushi
Hi there from Greenwood!! I’m Jennifer and I
will be filling you in on the local cuisine in our quaint little town. Today I will be talking about one of my
favorite restaurants, Uptown Sushi. You can find me here at least one Monday
out of every month. Why Monday? Because that is when Uptown has their all you
can eat special. I go for the Chef’s Choice, 4 specific rolls for $16.95. If
nothing tickles your fancy on the Chef’s Choice menu you can opt for the Your
Choice menu, which lets you choose any roll on the menu for $21.95. My personal favorite is the San Francisco roll (shrimp, cream cheese, rice, rolled in nori and drenched with their special dynamite sauce and teriyaki). Don’t care
for sushi?? They have you covered too! Their hibachi menu is amazingly yummy. With a native Japanese cook in the kitchen you can’t go wrong! I can
honestly say I have never been disappointed with anything off their menu. On a
scale of 1-10 they are definitely a 10 in my book!

What about the Greenwood YMCA?
Hey, this is Bonner.
When you think about all of the health and fitness opportunities in
Greenwood you may need some help figuring out what to do. Do you want to join an athletic club or
exercise outside for free? That’s the
question of the day. When it comes to
athletic clubs Greenwood has quite a few to choose from.
The YMCA, Wellness Works, 24 Hour Fitness, Curves, and Omni
are a few I know of.
In this post I’ll be talking about the Greenwood YMCA. The YMCA is my family friendly pick of the
clubs. With activities for all ages and
members of the family the YMCA offers not only an exercise venue with state of
the art machines, it also has an indoor Olympic size swimming pool, organized
educational activities for the kids, and exercise classes for everyone. Not to mention all the other stuff the Y has
to offer such as, 3 indoor basketball courts, racquetball rooms, a rock
climbing wall, cycling room, and outdoor track; just to name a few. The Y
offers the whole package when it comes to family health. For all the 20 something’s in Greenwood the
YMCA seems to have a variety of people using the facilities. When I visited the YMCA I noticed lots of college
age students working out. Including
college/student discounts, the YMCA has a wealth of 20 somethings in Greenwood
working out. The down side of working
out at the Y is that it gets very crowded at peak times and is the most
expensive on my list.
