The track at Lander's Jeff May complex

As spring approaches we are preparing to shed our winter pants and dig out the shorts and skirts.  For some reason this has always sent me into a panic, because I know my legs aren’t ready for public viewing yet.  As the days get warmer and nights turn mild it’s that time of year when outdoor exercise is most enjoyable.  This year Greenwood has a new outdoor walk/jog track located at the new Jeff May complex on Montague Avenue across from Little Pig’s BBQ and next to Wellness Works.  This sports complex, built by Lander University, houses a .875 mile rubber track, 2 baseball fields, 6 tennis courts, and a soccer field.  Although the track is open to the public the hours of operations are a bit limited and the sport fields are only for student use.  On Monday through Friday the track closes at 8pm, and Sunday 1-5pm, this is only if the weather is nice.  I’ve driven by on a less than beautiful day, when it’s barley raining outside, and the gates are locked.  I’ve spoken with many avid walkers at the track who wish it were open more often.  Despite the short hours of operation being a drawback, the great thing about this track is the safety issue.  There is a security building located at the back parking lot where a guard is always posted.  There are also cameras throughout the track and emergency post located at various points.  You can spot one of these emergency towers by the blue light on top. They are located about every 50yards around the track.   I like that the track isn’t flat all the way around, it has areas of up hill and down.
