Student life
The student life at Piedmont Tech is usually spent in class,
whether you’re on time or not, there is always a lively atmosphere. The one-on-one
contact with instructors teaching you new material or if its spent laughing and
talking with friends. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the students here
treat you with kindness and respect. There are several ways that the students
can spend their spare time. There is often times where there are special events
held at campus. Most recently was the Transfer Fair, in which we got to go and
talk to some of the “neighbor” colleges. This was a very successful event, full
of gained lifelong information as well as getting to interact with the
Representatives of a particular college. I received numerous information
packets containing helpful information about possible colleges to transfer to.
While at Piedmont Tech, there are many things that we as
students are able to do such as joining a club. There are several different
clubs and organizations offered at Piedmont Tech, based on your career choice
and also based on your interests. There
are clubs for nursing, computers, and psychology, among many others. The
student life around here is usually spent in the Lounge. This is where most of
Piedmont Tech’s students reside in between their classes. When you walk in,
usually you can see students, studying, talking, on their laptops and just
enjoying themselves. When you need a break, this is the place to go.

Entertaining Results March 1, 2012
Hey GMD man here, giving you the latest information of
entertainment for “20 Something!” Today I went around greenwood asking people
between the ages of 20- 29 what they would like to do for entertainment in
their spare time. And the results were not what I expected.
Seven out of twenty people said that they sit at home
playing videos games or some type of game. 5 of them play platform video games
such as playstation, xbox, or Nintendo. 2 of them play pc related computer
games. (Make not this does not include playing outside.)
Three out of twenty said that they watch movies. This also
includes going to an indoor or outdoor movie theater. They also use online
sources like Netflix or Vudu to watch movies at home.
One out of twenty listens to music or creates music. This person
not only listens to music but he also creates and writes his own music. He
plays the violin in his spare time and plays for party once in a while.
Two out of twenty work on some form of art. This includes
animation, writing, illustration etc. I have to admit one of the guys I talk to
was carrying around his portfolio and I saw some of his pieces. And all I can
say is wow, this guy got some skill. He does free hand art and did an awesome
job on it.
And finally Seven out of twenty did other things. On person
goes to auction houses to see if they were selling dolls since he was a doll
collector. Another guy goes to comedy shows in bars or entertainment
areas. These of course are examples but
I am pretty sure everyone gets the idea.
One thing that I am disappointed in is that out of all these
people not one of them mentioned any outdoor activities. It will not hurt for
them to go fishing, hiking, jogging or some for of outdoor activity. I am
planning to interview another set of twenty people in a week. See all you then.
20 random people between the age of 20 - 30 were asked what
did they do for entertainment.
Video Games - 7
Movies – 3
Outdoor activities-
Music – 1
Art – 2
Other – 7
The track at Lander's Jeff May complex
As spring approaches we are preparing to shed our winter
pants and dig out the shorts and skirts.
For some reason this has always sent me into a panic, because I know my
legs aren’t ready for public viewing yet.
As the days get warmer and nights turn mild it’s that time of year when
outdoor exercise is most enjoyable. This
year Greenwood has a new outdoor walk/jog track located at the new Jeff May
complex on Montague Avenue across from Little Pig’s BBQ and next to Wellness
Works. This sports complex, built by
Lander University, houses a .875 mile rubber track, 2 baseball fields, 6 tennis
courts, and a soccer field. Although the
track is open to the public the hours of operations are a bit limited and the
sport fields are only for student use.
On Monday through Friday the track closes at 8pm, and Sunday 1-5pm, this
is only if the weather is nice. I’ve
driven by on a less than beautiful day, when it’s barley raining outside, and
the gates are locked. I’ve spoken with
many avid walkers at the track who wish it were open more often. Despite the short hours of operation being a
drawback, the great thing about this track is the safety issue. There is a security building located at the
back parking lot where a guard is always posted. There are also cameras throughout the track
and emergency post located at various points.
You can spot one of these emergency towers by the blue light on top.
They are located about every 50yards around the track. I like that the track isn’t flat all the way
around, it has areas of up hill and down.
